WHAT IT IS · HOW IT WORKS

Functional Kinesiology — a conversation with your nervous system

Muscle testing is a non-invasive, real-time biofeedback tool. It doesn't provide a medical diagnosis; it helps us listen to where your body is asking for support.

THE MECHANICS

Think of a network of telephone wires

If the line is clear, data flows smoothly. If the connection is compromised, it will hesitate or "unlock." When testing muscles, we look for a clear, effortless hold or strong response.

We're checking how your nervous system responds to light pressure over a few seconds against a resisting limb — the integrity of that circuit, not physical strength.

WHEN A MUSCLE UNLOCKS

Six areas we investigate to restore balance

Nerve integrity

Is there clear communication between brain and body?

Meridian connection

Is the energetic connection flowing smoothly?

Lymphatic flow

Can the body clear metabolic waste?

Nutrition

Are food intolerances putting stress on the body?

Vascular flow

Does the area have blood flow to provide oxygen?

Emotional

Are emotional issues causing stress in the body?

THE DETAIL

The IVF spaces — where nerves meet organs

We specifically look at the Intervertebral Foramina (IVF) — the natural openings between the vertebrae where spinal nerves bundle out from the spinal cord to control organs. Think of them as raw wires carrying impulses.

  • Pectoralis Major Sternal (chest) has a strong energetic circuit link to the Liver.

  • Subscapularis (shoulder) connects to the Heart.

If a system is under pressure, the body has a hidden hierarchy. It prioritises survival — emotional or electrical stress — over digestion or hydration. Instead of chasing the symptom, we pinpoint where the body's machinery is struggling so it can restore its own natural regeneration.

THE TOOLKIT

The True North integrated toolkit

Once your body reveals where it is out of alignment, we draw from a heavily integrated toolkit to help restore balance. The Functional Kinesiology practice is grounded in a strong scientific background of functional nutrition and functional medicine, beautifully blended with the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Depending on what your nervous system indicates it needs, targeted, non-invasive physical techniques are used and include:

  • Targeted Lymphatic Massage: Applying deep, focused stimulation to specific points on the body to clear blocks and support your body's natural filtering system.

  • Neurovascular Holding Points: Light, calming contact points on the head (similar to concepts used in cranial osteopathy) to soothe the nervous system and improve blood flow.

  • Acupressure Holding Points: Utilising specific meridian points to balance the body's electrical and energetic pathways — incorporating the same principles as acupuncture, but without the needles.

  • Structural Alignment:  Hands-on work to release physical tension and support the body out of pain.

  • Emotional Stress Release Techniques: To support emotional trauma, upset, stress, accidents, exams, interviews, low self-esteem problems and blocked emotional responses.

When your nutrition, emotions, structure, and electrical pathways are fully aligned, the connections and organs function properly, and your body can smoothly return to its natural state of health.

WHAT TO EXPECT

How muscle testing actually works

If you've never experienced muscle response testing before, it's completely natural to wonder what it feels like.

During a session, I will use a limb or body part and place it into a specific position and ask you to simply
"hold" against a gentle pressure. The most important thing to know is that this is not a strength test. I am not checking to see how strong your muscles are, and you do not need to use all your might to resist me. In fact, trying too hard actually gives us an incorrect reading!

A balanced response

A smooth, effortless "lock" of the muscle. It should feel incredibly easy and comfortable for you to hold the body part in that temporary position.

An imbalance

If you feel like you have to recruit all your strength, or if the muscle effortlessly releases and gives way, that is simply your nervous system highlighting an organ or area in the body that needs support.
